Electro Magnetic Drum Separator
Continuous ferrous removal from high-tonnage bulk material flows
The Electro Magnetic Drum Separator is built for plants that need dependable, continuous removal of iron contamination from bulk materials such as sugar cane bagasse, cement raw mix, coal, and recycled aggregates. An energised electromagnetic coil inside a rotating steel drum generates a strong, deep-reaching magnetic field that captures ferrous tramp metal as material passes over the drum face. Unlike permanent designs, the field strength can be tuned to the application, making it effective on heavier burdens and larger tramp pieces. The drum is typically installed at the head pulley of a conveyor, so captured metal is automatically discharged clear of the clean product stream without stopping the line. Latif Engineering manufactures each drum separator to the belt width and throughput of the customer's line, with reinforced shells for abrasive and high-temperature material.

Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between an electro and a permanent magnetic drum separator?
An electro drum uses a powered coil, so field strength is adjustable and generally stronger for heavier tramp iron; a permanent drum uses fixed magnets and needs no electricity but has a constant, lower field.
Can this be retrofitted onto an existing conveyor?
Yes, drums are manufactured to match your existing belt width and head pulley arrangement.
How much maintenance does it need?
Routine bearing lubrication and periodic coil insulation checks; the sealed design minimises dust ingress.
Does the field strength stay constant if the power fluctuates?
Field strength follows the DC supply, so a stabilised power source is recommended for consistent separation.
