Chute Magnetic Separator

In-chute magnet for ferrous removal at gravity transfer points

The Chute Magnetic Separator is installed directly inside a gravity feed chute at a transfer point between conveyors, hoppers, or processing stages, where material naturally passes close to a fixed magnet face. This makes it one of the most compact and cost-effective ways to add ferrous protection without needing extra conveyor length or suspension structure. As bulk material free-falls or slides down the chute wall, tramp iron is pulled against the magnet and held out of the product stream. It is widely used in cement, sugar, and general bulk handling plants as either a primary or supplementary layer of protection ahead of crushers, screens, or bagging lines. Latif Engineering builds the chute magnet to fit directly into existing chute geometry with minimal modification.

  • • Fits directly inside existing chute geometry
  • • No conveyor length or extra structure required
  • • High capture efficiency due to concentrated flow
  • • Available in permanent or electro configurations
  • • Compact, low-cost ferrous protection
  • • Easy-access panel for scheduled clean-out
  • • Custom sizing to chute width and material flow
  • • Suitable as primary or supplementary protection

How it works

A magnet plate or bar is mounted flush against the inside wall of a gravity feed chute, positioned in the natural flow path of the material as it slides or falls through the transfer point. As bulk material moves past, ferrous tramp metal is pulled out of the flow and held against the magnet face by the magnetic field, while non-magnetic product continues down the chute unaffected. Because the chute already concentrates the material flow into a narrow path, the magnet can be positioned very close to the full material stream, improving capture efficiency compared to open conveyor installations. Captured metal accumulates on the magnet face and is removed during scheduled maintenance access to the chute.

Frequently asked questions

Can this be added to an existing chute without major rework?

Yes, it is built to fit into existing chute geometry with minimal structural modification.

Is it as effective as an overband magnet?

For chute transfer points it is often more effective, since the material stream is naturally concentrated close to the magnet.

How is captured metal removed?

Through a scheduled maintenance access panel built into the chute magnet housing.

Can I get a powered version for stronger capture?

Yes, electro chute magnet configurations are available where a stronger field is needed.
